Cross-Country Skiing on the Pfannenstiel

The longest cross-country ski trail in Canton Zurich extends for an incredible 30 kilometers (19 miles) – albeit providing that there is enough snow.

Ski Area

Not far beyond Zurich’s city boundary, the longest cross-country ski trail in Canton Zurich runs along the ridge of the Pfannenstiel – providing that sufficient snow has fallen. The upper area of Guldenen has guaranteed snow and so the trails are mostly in a better condition here than lower down. Unfortunately, however, Guldenen is not easy to get to by public transportation. The bus stops located directly along the route are Stäfa Mühlehölzli, Oetwil Beichlen and Vorderer Pfannenstiel.

Trails

The 10 km (6 mile) loop trail between Oetwil and Hombrechtikon is very picturesque and varied. On the connecting trail, cross-country skiers have to tackle an elevation of around 250 vertical meters (820 feet). On this section of the route, long stretches lead through the woods, where the trail is not always in very good condition.

Special Remarks

The grooming of the cross-country trail is financed by the Zurich Cantonal Bank, which is why use of this trail is free of charge.
