City Tour: Richard Wagner in Zurich
Tracing the footsteps of Richard Wagner, participants discover the Zurich that inspired the famous composer to write his outstanding works.
As a political refugee, the composer Richard Wagner traveled from Dresden to Zurich. Nine extremely productive years followed in the City on the Limmat, during which he wrote a large part of his epic work, “Der Ring des Nibelungen”.
This city tour tells which places Richard Wagner particularly loved, what he had to do with the husband of Johanna Spyri, the author of “Heidi”, what role the Baur au Lac hotel played, and why both good and bad fortune awaited him at what is today the Museum Rietberg.
Enriched by facts from Richard Wagner's life, as well as impressive stories about the Zurich of yesteryear, on this city tour participants take an inspiring journey back through time.
