Sihlsee Lake

Adventure awaits the youngest visitors at the largest reservoir in Switzerland. Meanwhile, the grown-ups can relax on the lakeshore or enjoy a cruise on the lake.

Already back in 1797, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe had the idea of creating a reservoir in the area where the Sihlsee lake is now located. However, the idea did not become reality until much later – the dam was built in the high-lying valley of Einsiedeln 80 years ago.

Adventure Days for Children

In summer and winter alike, the water and lakeshore are attractive places to relax and enjoy leisure pursuits. Starting in June, the local sailing club organizes an Adventure Day for children on every first and third Saturday of the month. After a short introduction, the young adventurers pull on their life jackets and head off across the lake in a canoe.

Theme Cruises

The motorized vessel, MS Angelika, operates on Switzerland’s largest reservoir from the beginning of June to the end of October. It offers a variety of theme cruises, such as fairy tale or moonlight cruises. MS Angelika departs from Willerzell; prior reservation is necessary.

Panorama Trail

A wonderful panoramic circular walk with 9 information panels leads from Einsiedeln Abbey – where there is also a Tourist Information office if you have any questions – to Lake Sihl. Along the theme trail are the Marstall (stud farm belonging to the abbey and the oldest in Europe), BBQ sites, and the Roblosen lido. On the way back to the town center, the trail passes the “Galgenchappeli”, a former chapel and now a shelter for pilgrims.
