Oepfelchammer
A cult institution in Zurich: the Oepfelchammer in the Niederdorf quarter was a favorite haunt of the Swiss writer, Gottfried Keller. Here culinary specialties from Zurich and region are served and well and truly celebrated in the “Oeli”.
On the one hand, the Oepfelchammer is a place of interest: since 1801, visitors have been carving their names and messages into the wooden benches and paneling in the “Oeli” wine bar, and then trying their luck at the Beam Challenge. Gottfried Keller was a regular guest and even overslept on his first day as city clerk because he had been busy filling up his glass here the previous evening.
On the other hand, the restaurant at Rindermarkt 12 is a popular address for traditional local cuisine. The Oepfelkammer has a clear culinary focus on specialties from Zurich and surrounding region, all prepared using fresh, seasonal products.
