Since time immemorial, the bridge near the Town Hall has been known as the Vegetable Bridge – because there has always been a market there.

The weekly flower and vegetable market is held where tourism originated in Zurich – at the spot where Goethe and Mozart enjoyed the city as the gateway to the Alps. The Rathausbrücke was also the site of a market long ago – which is why the locals still call it the “Gemüsebrücke” (Vegetable Bridge).
