Ooki Japanese Izakaya
At the Ooki, in the center of Wiedikon – or more precisely on Zentralstrasse – guests are transported for a moment or two to the Land of the Rising Sun.
It doesn’t always have to be sushi. The Ooki is a real “izakaya” – in Japan, that is the word used to describe simple restaurants in which traditional dishes are served. As is customary at these frill-free gastropubs, the Ooki has room for just 30 people. However, the wait is well worthwhile, for if you manage to get a table, you can enjoy delicious noodle soups, the best gyoza in town, and mouthwatering rice specialties with meat and fish, while sitting at low tables and with Japanese pop music in the background.
And those who would like to eat together with friends in somewhat quieter surroundings can withdraw to the separate tatami dining area.
