Galerie Peter Kilchmann

Peter Kilchmann has decisively shaped the Zurich art scene with his motto, “Art must be politically relevant.”

Peter Kilchmann knew very early on that he wanted to work in the art market. After studying in Paris, he immersed himself into the art scene in New York, and subsequently moved to Zurich.

Kilchmann’s first gallery exhibition featured the then largely unknown Willie Doherty. That was in 1992 on the legendary Schoeller-Areal, from where, together with like-minded people, he brought a breath of fresh air into the artistic world in the City on the Limmat. With the idea of founding a new art fair for a young generation of artists and gallerists, in 1996 he created the Basel “Liste” (List) in collaboration with Eva Presenhuber.

Nowadays, Kilchmann runs the globally networked gallery of the same name in Zürich-West and exhibits at international fairs in Basel, Miami Beach, Hong Kong, and Maastricht.
