Bahnhof Stadelhofen – a Busy Train Station and Architectural Masterpiece
The "Stadelhofen" is one of the busiest railway stations in Switzerland and an architectural highlight.
When the Stadelhofen station was rebuilt in the 1990s, the late classic 1884 building remained. The new station designed the by the famous architect Santiago Calatrava was integrated in the late structure, with the canopy of steel and concrete over the platform modeled on the ribs of a bull. Particularly striking are also the ornate hinged gates that at night shut off passage to the underground shopping area and hillside platforms.
