Illumination Kloster Einsiedeln (Einsiedeln Abbey Light Festival)

The light show will take place on Klosterplatz in front of Einsiedeln Abbey.

The light show will take place daily from January 8 – 23, 2027, at Klosterplatz Einsiedeln. Performances are held every evening at 6:30pm and 7:30pm.

The Illumination generally takes place regardless of the weather, even in snow and low temperatures – warm clothing is recommended. A performance may be canceled only under exceptional conditions, such as a storm, very heavy snowfall, or thick fog. The decision is sometimes not made until the day of the event and will be posted on illuminationklostereinsiedeln.ch.

Each show lasts about 20 minutes.

Yes, the light show is wheelchair accessible. The show takes place on Klosterplatz. The ground may be uneven in places.

There are various food and beverage stands on site, including raclette from the Milchmanufaktur Einsiedeln (Einsiedeln dairy). Around Klosterplatz, numerous restaurants also offer a wide selection for a cozy evening. Many of them are gastronomic partners of the Illumination festival. Reservations are recommended on Illumination evenings.

The monastery church is open to visitors. There are no tours during or after the light show. Arriving in the afternoon is therefore recommended. From Monday through Saturday, a public guided tour of the monastery church and the abbey library begins at 2pm. Registration and information.
