Museum Schloss Kyburg

Situated near to Winterthur, Kyburg Castle towers 150 meters (490 ft) above the River Töss. Kyburg Castle is a very well preserved feudal castle and the oldest castle museum in Switzerland.

The castle museum presents the almost 1,000-year history of the Kyburg rulers and allows visitors to experience its complex architecture a new way.

The baroque castle garden with beds full of vegetables, medicinal herbs, and flowers invites visitors to stop and linger. And the reopened circular path around the castle walls provides magnificent panoramic views.

Children can enjoy the dragon hunt in the castle and the playground in front of the castle garden.

The History of the Castle:

Kyburg Castle was the ancestral seat of the counts of the same name. In 1264, it came into the possession of the Habsburgs, who sold it to the city of Zurich in 1424. Until 1798, Zurich bailiffs resided in the castle and ruled over their subjects, held court over them, and collected taxes.
