Schaffhausen’s Industrial Heritage Through the Ages

From steel foundry to living space, fashion boutique, and yoga studio: experience the transformation of a Schaffhausen industrial district.

Around 200 years ago, the first pillars of what was later to become a flourishing industry with an international presence were built in the Mühlental quarter, north of Schaffhausen´s Old Town.

On this guided tour of a former Schaffhausen steel foundry, visitors can find out how disused industrial sites are being given a new lease of life: in the place where turbines once rotated, people now live and run local businesses, such as restaurants, yoga studios, and fashion boutiques.

In addition to Schaffhausen´s industrial history from 1800 onwards, the tour also imparts a host of fascinating information about modern architecture and urban planning.
