Circular Bike Tour “Egg”

This medium-difficulty tour leads from the Linth plain into the foothills of the Speer, a pyramid of conglomerate rock.

After gliding into the Linth area, you will reach Steinenbrugg, where the longest climb of this tour begins. A narrow strip of tarmac winds its way up through roughly 1,000yd / 900 metres of steep grassland. The route offers up beautiful views of the Linth plain, Lake Zürich and the Glarus and Schwyz Alps here.

You are now in the foothills of the Speer. This striking elevation is Europe’s highest conglomerate rock mountain at 6,400ft / 1,951 metres.  You will find yourself surrounded by waterfalls, gorges, gnarled pine trees and glacial boulders.

A relatively gentle descent takes you to Rieden and Uetliburg, where the second climb awaits. Shortly before reaching the 3,950ft / 1,204m high Egg, you also cover gravel tracks and paths. The rest of the route is a very steep, rapid downhill run down into the Linth plain.
