Museum für Gestaltung – Ausstellungsstrasse

The main building of the museum for design is just a few minutes’ walk from Zurich Main Station.

The listed building from the 1930s is an outstanding example of Swiss modernist architecture and a real must-see for architecture enthusiasts.

The exhibition, “Collection Highlights”, presents design icons such as the Rex vegetable peeler, the Swiss Army Knife by Victorinox, and typefaces such as “Helvetica”. Directly adjacent, in a varied tour, “6 Rooms x 6 Positions” provide a glimpse into the current themes currently preoccupying a new generation of designers. The museum has invited contemporary Swiss designers to each decorate a room using objects from the museum’s own collection. In addition, the Swiss Design Lounge and the museum café invite visitors to linger and relax.

In the corridor on the second floor, meanwhile, a selection of around 80 reprinted posters give an insight into the wealth of exhibits in the largest poster collection in the world, and illustrates in an exemplary way the collection’s thematic, geographical, and historical scope. The program in the spacious education studio offers interesting activities for all age groups.

The museum's second location is at the Toni-Areal.
