Opera for All

The free open-air opera has enthralled avid fans and opera novices alike. This spectacular event attracts hundreds of spectators of all ages to Sechseläutenplatz every year.

Laden with blankets, folding chairs, and picnic baskets, members of the public already start making their way to the square in the early afternoon in order to secure the best places. The opera that is being performed live in the Opera House is simultaneously transmitted to Sechseläutenplatz via a huge screen and powerful loudspeakers. Even passers-by stop for a few minutes or even longer to take in the scene – for not just the ballet performance, but also the many spectators sitting quietly and listening spellbound to the music, is a sight to behold.
