Guided hiking tour to the Top of Uetliberg

This excursion to the countryside appeals to guests who enjoy hiking off the beaten track and are in average to good physical condition. An unforgettable experience and surprising views are guaranteed. Europe’s largest yew tree forest is located on the Northern slopes of the Uetliberg, and narrow tracks facilitate close contact with nature. Zürich’s local mountain can be challenging, and participants should be equipped with light walking shoes for the uphill trek spanning a difference in altitude of 400 m/437 yards. Taking a snack and a rain jacket if the weather is uncertain is recommended. We begin our tour with a 15-minute tram ride via Bahnhofstrasse and Paradeplatz to Albisgütli. Anyone who is tired or would like to avoid the descent because of knee problems, for example, can travel back down independently by rail from the Uetliberg terminus. Our experienced Toptrek guide provides periodic explanations along the way and looks forward to your questions. Groups usually consist of no more than six people.
Please make your reservation (preferably by email, or phone) as quickly as possible up to 14:00 pm the day before. The hike ends at a station on the Uetlibergbahn (S10) with a direct connection back to the main station. Accident insurance is the responsibility of the participants.

If less than three people sign up for the tour, then after consultation (no later than the evening before) and decision by the interested parties, the tour will either take place on payment of a supplement (2 people, CHF 20 each, one person, CHF 80), or be cancelled.

Hiking up a genuine Swiss mountain

This guided day trip appeals to enterprising guests with an average to very good level of fitness, who enjoy going on a guided and demanding mountain hike of 300 to 2000 meters in altitude and a walking distance of 10 to 20 kilometers. Sure-footedness is required and a good head for heights is necessary for many ascents and descents. With a little luck also animal watching is possible. For some trips the way back can be shortened by means of a cable railway beginning at half altitude. The departure and the endpoint of the hike is different in each case. Gear consists of mountain boots with good profile, a daypack with snacks and beverage, rain and sun protection, hat or hood, maybe gloves and walking sticks. For a peak performance several factors have to match favourably and security has the highest priority.

Peaks with magnificent 360° view to be choosen from:
  • Northeast of Zurich: Schnebelhorn 1293m (highest Zurich mountain, hiking distance Steg – Libingen, 600m up); Höchhand SG 1314m (High altitude clinic Wald – Wattwil, 1000m up); Planggenstock GL 1675m (Reichenburg – Ziegelbrücke, 1300m up); Gonzen SG 1829m (Sargans – Kurhaus Oberschan/ Seveler or Buchser Berg, maybe incl. Alvier 2343m, at least 1400m up); Federispitz SG 1865m (Ziegelbrücke – Ebnat-Kappel, 1900m up); Alpstein-Säntis / Churfirsten SG/AI/AR max. 2501m (various possibilities); Vorder Glärnisch GL 2327m (Rhodannenberg – Schwändi, 1500m up); Gufelstock GL 2436m (Sool/Engi – Äugsten, 1700m up); Heitel-, Heubützli-, Foopass SG/GL 2468m (Weisstannen – Elm, 2000m up); Falknis GR 2560m (Maienfeld – Balzers, 2100m up); Pizol 2844m SG (from/to Bad Ragaz resp. Laufböden, 800m up, CHF 40/P cable car supplement).
  • Westerly (Jura): Belchenflue SO 1098m (Allerheiligenberg – Waldenburg/Liestal or Hauenstein/ Olten, 300m up); Weissenstein SO 1395m (Balmberg – Vauffelin, 600m up); Chasseral BE 1607m (St-Imier – Les Prés-d'Orvin, 900m up).
  • Southerly: Wildspitz ZG 1580m (Goldau – Sattel/ Unterägeri/Zugerberg, 1100m up); Rigi-Hochflue SZ 1698m (Brunnen – Goldau, 1300m up), Gr. Mythen SZ 1898m (Schwyz – Brunni, 1500m up).

Please make your reservation (preferably by email, or phone) as quickly as possible up to 14:00 pm the day before. The outward and return journey with public transport from/to Zurich is included in the price. Participants with Swiss Pass, Half-Fare card, General Abonnement etc. receive the respective price discount. Accident insurance is the responsibility of the participants.

If less than three people sign up for the tour, then after consultation (no later than the evening before) and decision by the interested parties, the tour will either take place on payment of a supplement (2 people, CHF 40 each, one person, CHF 160), or be cancelled.
