Haus Konstruktiv

The Haus Konstruktiv is located in the former Selnau electricity sub-station, one of the most distinctive icons of Zürich’s industrial architecture. The museum is the only such institution in Switzerland, one of just a few in Europe dedicated to historical and thematic exploration of concrete, constructive and conceptual art. The Haus Konstruktiv focuses on making it part of a living dialog with international trends in contemporary art.

On five floors with a total of 1,200m² exhibition area, visitors discover works of art in the context of their historical background in various ways, through changing exhibitions and presentations of collections.

Kunsthaus Zürich

The Kunsthaus Zürich (Museum of Fine Art) houses the most important collection of modern art in Zürich and is renowned for both its permanent art collection and its temporary exhibitions. International works of significance include many paintings by Edvard Munch, Van Gogh, Picasso, and leading Expressionists. There is also a significant group of works by Claude Monet and Marc Chagall. In addition to modern artistic trends represented by Rothko, Merz, Twombly, Beuys, Bacon, and Baselitz, visitors can discover a wide choice of pop-art works. An audio guide gives background information on 200 “highlights” of the collection.

Chagall - Modern Master
Marc Chagall (1887–1985) was one of the great figurative painters of the twentieth century and since the 1960s the Kunsthaus Zürich has staged numerous exhibitions devoted to his art. In addition, the museum houses a dozen or so of Chagall's important paintings, donated by the artist's family and other generous patrons, which represent various phases of his artistic career. Between February and May 2013 the Kunsthaus Zürich will once again celebrate the art of this much-loved artist with the landmark exhibition, Chagall: Modern Master.

Opening hours: Saturday/Sunday/Monday/Thuesday: 10am – 6pm, Wednesday/Thursday 10am – 8pm

Swiss National Museum

The Swiss National Museum is located in the heart of the city of Zürich, right across the street from the Main Railway Station. The museum houses the largest cultural-historical collection of objects in the country. The museum building is over 100 years old and reminds one of a fairytale castle. History comes alive behind its thick walls. How did past generations live, think and feel? The material heritage they left behind – from handicrafts to mundane everyday objects – provides us with answers, from prehistoric times to the present. The Swiss National Museum also addresses socially relevant topics using special exhibits and offers temporary changes of perspective.
Current special exhibition: ANIMALI
Animals and MYTHICAL Creatures from antiquity to the modern Age (01.03. – 14.07.13)

Museum Rietberg

The Rietberg Museum in Zürich is the only art museum for non-European cultures in Switzerland. It possesses an internationally renowned collection of works from Asia, Africa, America and Oceania.

By presenting works of art, the museum seeks not only to make visitors aware of the fascinating diversity of forms of artistic expression, but also to arouse their interest in and understanding of other cultures, ideologies and religions.

The architectural highpoint of the “Emerald”, as the new museum extension is called, is the glass pavilion, which merges perfectly with the existing buildings in one of Zürich’s most beautiful parks, the Rieterpark.
